Plot: Brisco's interrupted in an attempt to bring in some random bounty called Ringo by a telegraph from Socrates, who's in jail in Louisiana for accusing a man of swindling him at cards. Soc has run afoul of Brett Bones (played by Xander Berkley), described as the 'most gentlemanly member of John Bly's gang'. Which means he plays about being high-class, but he's still a scumbag. A scumbag with a pardon from the governor of Louisiana which means Brett can literally get away with murder, as he killed a fabric manufacturer named Wylie's brother.
Which means Brisco is going to have to be sneaky. So we see crooked poker games, fixed boxing matches, various attempts at threats and intimidation. Double-crosses, both real and imagined abound, especially once Dixie shows up with her own plans.
Does Brisco use his gun? Yes! He draws it and shoots it in the opening sequence, breaking the lock on a corral, so he can use the ensuing stampede to escape with the telgraph delivery boy.
Things Comet does; Critiques Brisco's taste in duded up clothes.
Kiss Count: 3. Well, Dixie's in this episode, what did you expect? Those crazy kids can't keep their hands off each other. (9 overall)
John Bly Spreads His Arms Dramatically: 0, Bly is absent.
Is Pete Hutter In This Episode? No.
Pete Hutter Quote: N/A
Non-Pete Quote: 'You've done your best to sully my good reputation, so I'm going to win your money fair and square and then I'm gonna kill you.' - Brett Bones to Brisco
Brisco's Coming Things: Reverse psychology, maybe? Wylie taught Bowler to dance around in the ring, that's an evolution of boxing. Oh yeah, can't forget denim. Crap, I can't say that word without thinking of that idiot music teacher imploring parents to buy their kids "DENIM!". If anyone ever needed a cartoon style "head smashed between cymbals", it's that dope.
Bly Gang Count: 1 Brett Bones, arrested (3 overall). Hey he finally brought one in alive!
Stuff the Orb Can Do: N/A
Other: Brisco utilizes the card cheating skills demonstrated in the opening sequence of "Brisco in Jalisco'. He also dusts off his "Roscoe Merriweather" alias from the Pilot. Socrates tried gambling to expand his horizons as Brisco suggested in "Socrates' Sister".
For an episode where Brisco stashes his gun and tries to settle things with guile, there's a lot of punching and assorted violence. Must go hand in hand with all the double-crossing and cheating. I like Dixie showing up halfway through. She has her own motive, Brisco can't be sure what it is, and he's torn between trying to protect her, and keeping his cover so he can catch Bones.
The whole thing feels a bit like an episode of Maverick. Not that I've ever seen any episodes, but i saw the movie with Mel Gibson.

I miss this show, dagnabit. And yes, if you get a chance DO see the original Maverick episodes with James Garner. They're a hoot.
Considering how much my dad likes Westerns and James Garner, I'm surprised he doesn't have it on DVD.
