Rehabbing Evil

The kudos from the higher-ups have been coming in since Adorable Baby Panda's capture of Hideous Baby Penguin last week. It's given them a rare opportunity, a chance to coax a penguin away from evil, and onto the side of light. It's only happened once before, the success being Neon Genesis Evangelion mascot Pen-Pen (pictured at left, image courtesy of Anime BGX, which no longer appears to be running. Damn, time marches on). At least, that's what Papafred says. I have my doubts on the success of that rehab.

But that isn't ABP, nor my, area of expertise, so we're left to critque the characters this week. There are definitely some spoiler-type things in the post, so Matthew, if you still haven't seen Annihilation #6 yet, turn back now!

Hugs, Applause, Bonk: Nova. The applause should be self-explanatory, given what he accomplished. The hug is because Rich seemed kind of tired, not to mention pretty beat up. ABP figured his spirit could use some raising. The bonk is for trying to fight Annihilus alone. We know you want to protect people Rich, but that's a bit much!

Applause: Andrea DiVito. For making Silver Surfer look pretty intimidating there on page 2. "Intimidating" is not normally a word I'd associate with Silver Surfer, but it works here.

Hugs: Thanos, Death. They looked so... happy together. {Which is terrifying in it's own right. I'm not sure I'll be letting ABP close enough to actually hug either of them}.

Applause: Phyla. Didn't matter what Nova's plan was, Phyla was gonna get herself into the mix, and it's unlikely Rich would have survived without her. And it was so sweet the way she and Moondragon were holding hands! {Hmm, I wonder...}

Applause, Bonk: Ronan. On the one hand, your method to take the fight to Ravenous' forces was impressive. {Can't believe Ravenous survived that hit last issue.} On the other hand, an armisitice? {Peace treaties are for wussies! You're a Kree!}

Applause: Galactus - He protected Drax' daughter, even though he never actually agreed to Drax' terms. And given that Galactus rarely condescends to acknowledge lesser beings, that he took the effort {Miniscule though it may have been} to send them someplace safe was nice.

Applause: Metron's chair. It just looks so cool. {It'll look even cooler once we repaint it. Green? Ugh.}

Hug: Brenda. Wait, I'm not giving her the hug. She deserves a Bonk! She broke up a traditional Superhero Misunderstanding Brawl between Jamie and Lonar. How could she? OK fine, she gets the hug because stopping them from fighting each other gave them the time to make the planet more hospitable.
