It Ain't Easy Being Part Of A Legacy

So I was reading through Sensational Spider-Man #29, and I get to the ending. At that point we've got Liz Allan reminiscing about her friend Peter Parker, who she now knows is Spider-Man. But she gets a surprise visitor - Her brother the Molten Man! Given that he's walking towards Liz while burning through the door and telling her he's sorry, it seems a pretty safe guess that things aren't going to end well for one of (the first of?) Peter's crushes. I guess it makes sense, seeing as she's an old friend, and it's her brother doing the killing (cue M. Night saying 'What a twist!'), though Liz has been out of the Spider-circle for awhile. I guess maybe Chameleon wants to start at the beginning.

Hmm, just eliminating Peter's various love interests could take months. Paging Betty Brant, paging Betty Brant, please do not pick up the white courtesy phone, simply run very far away, very fast. You are probably next on the hit parade. Does anyone know where we can find Debra Whitman? She'll probably need to be warned. Oooh, light bulb! Hey Chameleon, howzabout sending some of your guys to France and eliminate Gwen's children? No, they aren't Osborn's kids, where did you hear that?! Oh, Quesada told you? Well, OK they are, so what? They're children of one of Peter's loved ones, you are attacking his loved ones, ergo, you should attack them. Are you afraid of Norman Osborn? Oh, you are? Well, what good are you?

Back on topic.

What I'm wondering is, where was little Normie Osborn? I mean, his mom must have custody of him, right? Norman's apparently decided the kid has too much of his father in him to be a suitable heir, so I don't figure Normie would be with him, even if Norman weren't in prison. Oops, that's right, the government seems to have let him out of prison. Fantastic. I guess maybe he could have been at school, he's old enough, but I feel bad for him. I mean, the kid's been through enough already.

His mother got abducted by Hobgoblin while pregnant with him. He's been threatened by a different Hobgoblin, kidnapped by a construct made by his grandfather so Norman could prove he isn't the Green Goblin, been abducted by the Brotherhood of Scriers in an attempt to get Norman out in the open (because Norman had demonstrated such immense concern for his loved ones since his return). He's seen his mom in all kinds of suffering over his dad's apparent mental issues. Oh yeah, and he watched his father die right in front of him. Man, if ever there was a kid who didn't need more trauma dumped on him, this is that kid.

Well, I guess we can hope that since we didn't actually see Molten Man do anything to Liz, that maybe he spared her, and is just planning to lie to the Chameleon about carrying out his orders. Then he can team-up with Spidey and they can layeth the smacketh down on all those candy asses!

*fingers crossed for Liz and Normie*

Perhaps Normie is hanging out with Baby May, Bambi, Candi, Randi and the Nurse Who's Looking After Flash, in the Spider-Man Limbo Zone.

That sounds like a happy, safe place to be. Maybe Peter ought to think about moving May and MJ there?

I think the nurse who looks after Flash has probably been reassigned though, with Flash out of his coma and teaching gym at the same high school Pete teaches (or is that taught?) biology at.

I haven't been reading Peter David's Spidey effort, but aren't we owed an explanation of (1) how, why and when Flash came out of his coma (hence where his nurse went), and (2) considering Flash was supposed to be living half the time with May and half the time with Pete and MJ, what happened to him when they all moved into Avengers Tower???

I think the reason this bothers me so much is because it looks riotously neglectful on the part of Pete, MJ and May. They promised to look after him, but sort of forgot him and left him beind. In an empty apartment or a ruined house. :/

Speaking of Debra Whitman, I bet she is PISSED at Peter Parker right now...

kelvin: Yeah, I'm waiting to be told what's up with Flash.

I suppose the best explanation is the "Flash in a coma" story was by Paul Jenkins, and David figures if JMS never even paid it lip service (and he didn't), then David can pretty much blow it off as well.

dan: I think that's a trait Debra shares with a lot of people who knew Peter Parker right now.

Gasp! Maybe she's behind this whole scheme! Horrors!

i think franklin richards would be more screwed up than normie.the kid has been nothing but attacked since he was born..or put in danger.

gabe: true but Franklin's also got a cool family. His dad can make all those nifty gadgets for him, and Ben Grimm is like a loveable uncle. Plus, Franklin has awesome mental powers, or at least he used to. Heck, he laid the smackdown on Mephisto all by himself once! It was freaking awesome!

Normie's got his mom and his ex-con of an uncle. It's less hazardous (or it was), but less cool, too, it seems.

Franklin's life just seems like more of an adventure, while Normie's looks more like a nightmare.

But that's just me.

(Here from When Fangirls Attack.)

Peter David has said that Deb Whitman will be showing up in his run. Meanwhile, in Sensational I sort of assumed that the kid Raxton was watching was, in fact, Normie, but it was all sorts of sloppy writing that this was never even mentioned.

Flash was shown coming out of his coma and starting to regain movement/thought at the tail end of Jenkins' Spectacular run, but they never did explain what happened with the New Avengers move - I guess Liz Allen helped him?

Yeah well, Flash was supposed to be living with Pete half the time, except he moved into Tony "I can't afford to rebuild Avengers Mansion" Stark's new skyscraper. The other half of tthe time, Flash was supposed to be living with May, but Faux-Molten Man mashed her house.

So Flash either got left alone in an empty apartment, or he got crushed by rubble. Good job of looking after your friends, Pete...

Hey, look at the solicits for November: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is about Deb Whitman writing a tell-all.
