Don't Say Skrull!

I'm leaving town for a little vacation early in the morn. So I leave you with a little puzzler to mull over while I am away: Who (or what) is Layla Miller?*

*{Note: Saying "a MacGuffin" will not win you any of the fabulous prizes.**}

**{Note: There are no fabulous prizes to be won, so don't get your hopes up.}

Pietro's weird "Super Mutant Power Overload" attack didn't work on her, suggesting she is not, in fact, a mutant. The Old Man Tryp referred to her as being a being of chaos like him, but that may have been in a general sense, rather than meaning she is actually an embodiment of chaos. Though there is a chance she a chaos sprite (like that little pink creature that was on Thanos' shoulder through most of Annihilation), just in disguise. But that's just crazy talk, so let's try and come up with a different idea. Fortunately, I have two more crackpot theories:

1) Layla is a sentient piece of the Cosmic Cube, just like the Beyonder wound up being (right?). Would explain the whole "knowing almost everything" schtick.

2) Layla is actually Cable/Deadpool editor Nicole Boose. She's made her way onto the Cable/Deadpool recap page - and survived! - so she knows how to sneak into the 616 universe. How hard could it be to get Wade to steal a holographic image projector from the X-Men for her, so she could appear to be a child? And, this would also neatly solve the "knows stuff" angle, as Marvel editors must spend their time doing something, and since they aren't editing, reading the plots for books they don't work on seems as likely a pasttime as any. Layla's rare misstep comes when PAD makes a last second change (for the sake of argument, I'm saying Monet bringing the French girl to X-Factor HQ was a last-second writer decision. It probably wasn't, but then my brilliantly crafted scenario would crumble, and I would cry, and nobody wants that, not even UnCalvinPitt, and he's still sore about getting clubbed with a chair back in April.)

So, those are my theories, you've got until I return on Friday to present yours. I expect documentation to support your assertions - or ELSE!!!!!!!

No seriously, just throw out anything that tickles your fancy. We'll have a good laugh when I come back. Until then.

Not having read X-Factor, I'll just comment on the Beyonder. According to the most recent Illuminati (the series that just loves to piss me off), the Beyonder was an Inhuman that was a mutant before he went through the Terrigen Mists. The Mists therefore mutated him into essentially a God. Of course, that completely ignores everything that's happed with Kosmos/Kubik and the Beyonder's appearance in the Thanos mini and its "death" in Annihilation.

Illuminati really pisses me off.

Its so simple...
Lala is.. The Impossible Woman!
Impy himself can do whatever he fancies and she hasn't been seen around so... why not?

I like number two. It also explains why she wants to marry Jamie. Rowwrr!

Wait a minute...what happened to the first comment that I was referring to? It's disappeared!

Hey, what happened to my comment? Did I offend the ABP?

Sadly, I can barely remember what I said.

Jason figured out her identity, so naturally Layla erased his comment, and then made him forget what it was

Well, at least Pietro didn't show up at my door trying to sell some mutant powers. That guy's worse than Amway.

Layla's not a Skrull.

She's a Kree!

Erm ... she's The Void?

Ooh, maybe she's the Scarlet Witch's memory!

kanedoras: Yeah, I decided that ignoring the Illuminati explanation for the beyonder would be a good thing.

anonymous1: But I thought that one New Mutants Annual said Impy can't change color, and Layla isn't green! Can the Impossible Woman change color? Or is she using a lot of paint?!

sallyp: Jason's comment? What comment?

dumma: Damn it, how did Layla figure out my password? How could she know stuff like that... Oh, right.

jason: Uh, I have no idea what happened to your comment. You have to remember, the fate of the world may be at stake!

matthew: I like the Scarlet Witch's memory a lot more than the Void. No more Sentry-related stuff please, Marvel!

anonymous2: Hmm, a Chaos God? Interesting.

from what i got from house of m ..layla was created by the sacarlet wich to stop herself and pitor..wait that didnt make sence...when wanda got talked inot re-imaging things per petrios request she also created a bein to see the truth ...why she did that im not sure..like if its sub concious or not...but emma frost basikly stated she was created by the scarlet wich...maybe she was unsure about petrios plan and made a person to help stop him/her since she herself didnt have the know how to stop it...why she did it or if it was ententional(sp??) they never stated but from what im getting the witch made her to see the truth and make others see..this is also how wolverine and lukes team was formed...with out laylas help they would all still be trapped in house of m...but the witch knowing it was wrong created somehting to stop herself...hence layla knowing stuff...that was her power...if she knew "stuff" shed be able to show others and knew enough stuff to set things in motion to return reality to normal...her powers have to be precog but not sure how it works..like does she seee timelines or flashes of things??

gabesummers: So that's how she came to be? I never actually read House of M enough to get the whole story. It would explain her not having parents, since she would have only had them in that other world where she was created.

I'm not quite sure what her powers are myself. She can usually see the future, but I've also seen her bring a butterfly back to life. Hmm, maybe she's the manifestation of Wanda's powers, seeing as Wanda doesn't seem to have her powers currently?

never thought of her as a conduit...possibly with reality altering powers of herself...and since "caos" is un prdictable.....so maybe thats why she sets things up at times...like in the latest issue everyone just so happend to be in the right palce at the right time..so maybe she alters things then puts everyone on the path to make it complete....im sure some where down the line they will do something wioth her...or have scarletwitch come up then deal with it all..
